2nd 9 Weeks, Week 1: Math Videos (due Monday, 10/27/14) and Word Problem (due Friday, 10/31/14)

Complete the following assignments on Long Division.
Work the problems and answer the questions that are posed to you in the video(s).
Turn your answers in on lined paper with the proper heading and title for a homework grade.

USING THE AREA MODEL FOR DIVISION

Watch the video below and work the example along with the teacher.
Then, try using the area model method to work the problem 477 divided by 3 on your own.


This is your second assignment.





WEEKLY WORD PROBLEM
Instructions:
1.  Read the problem twice.  Circle key words.
2.  Choose a strategy to solve the problem.  Write down the name of the strategy you will use to solve.
Strategies include:
-Draw a Picture
-Look for a Pattern
-Guess and Check
-Use Logical Reasoning
-Solve a Simpler Problem
-Make a Table or a Chart
-Make a Graph
-Work Backwards
-Use a Strip Diagram

3.  Solve the problem (make sure to label and circle your answer).  Double check your work to make sure of your answer.
4.  Finally, explain how you got the answer and why it makes sense.  Your explanation should be at least 3 sentences long.

Problem: Dave is walking home from school and is attempting not to step on any of the cracks in the sidewalk.  He finds that there are 15 cracks in front of each house and there are 12 houses that he walks past.  How many cracks are there in all that Dave needs to try not to step on?
